Steve is a familiar face to many people in and around the Farnham area having lived and worked locally since 1987. Steve opened Castles Farnham Office in 1997 and believes he is now ‘part of the furniture’.
Although possessing a science degree, Steve chose a career in Estate Agency for the interaction and the variety it offers. His calmness and experience has made the difference for so many clients over the years. Steve works closely with his clients to ensure they are comfortable each step along the way and always appreciates discussing a move face to face with a client over a cup of tea!
Steve and his wife Kate live in Farnham with their 2 children aged under 16, each attending Farnham schools. Steve values the insight this gives him into the local education system, often an important detail with house hunters!
Penny joined the Castles team in Farnham in 2004. She previously had a career in the tourism industry working for a major long haul travel company for nearly 20 years. Although the job of letting houses is quite different from selling holidays to exotic places the focus on providing good quality customer service is equally important.
Following a short break to raise her two sons, Penny took the opportunity to get back to work in the family business with husband, Duncan, who founded Castles in 1992. Penny is now a director of Castles and is involved in the lettings department. Penny deals with all aspects of tenancy renewal administration, carrying out property inspections on behalf of landlords, arranging property maintenance jobs with contractors and ensuring the lettings team runs smoothly. Penny is a fully licensed member of ARLA (Association of Residential Letting Agents) having obtained the Technical Award in Residential Lettings in 2011, and attends ARLA regional and national meetings to keep up to date with the regulations and legislation involved in letting residential property.
Penny enjoys her spare time gardening, Pilates and walking to keep fit, and time with her family mostly taken up watching her sons play (lots of) football, hockey and cricket.
Sally Joined Castles in October 2017, after a chance meeting with Director Duncan. Sally enjoys the daily challenges of lettings maintenance. Sally’s previous experience has stood her in good stead, having previously worked for a local Housing Association. Her role, for 6yrs, covered Income, Housing general queries specialising in the maintenance side of things.
Prior to this, Sally worked in education for 9yrs. Sally has also run her own business as a consultant to a bank, for 4yrs, whilst raising her two daughters. Prior to this Sally enjoyed a 16yr career in banking starting her career in Farnham and finishing in Westminster.
In her spare time she enjoys spending time with family and friends, is a keen cook, golfer, dressmaker and water colour artist.
Kate is the newest member of the Castles team. Having grown up in a military family, with her father in the RAF, she has lived both in the UK and overseas in Germany and Cyprus.
When her father left the Armed Forces she went to work for NAAFI, where she covered a variety of roles relishing in the different challenges and experiences on offer. She was posted to Germany in 2006 where three years later she met her husband. Moving between the UK and two more military postings to Cyprus means that Kate has had first-hand experience of moving into various properties as a tenant, so it became inevitable, with her passion for houses, that she would progress into a lettings agent role. In addition, she helped her father find his current property and her sister a flat that she lived in for a number years.
Kate has a Level 2 NVQ in Business Administration and Level 1 in hairdressing. Kate and her husband are now back in the UK permanently and live in Aldershot with their 7 year old son.
Debbie joined the Castles team in February 2018 – although initially this was just to temporarily cover staff holidays, she is now well and truly part of the team in Farnham. With over 30 years of administration experience, she brings a wide variety of organisational and IT skills and has quickly settled into the role. Having always worked in administration, Debbie has experience within a number of business sectors including recruitment, accountancy, telecommunications, the event industry as well as estate agency. She has also successfully set up her own administration business supporting small businesses with their administration requirements. Debbie is married with two sons, one already at university and the younger one shortly heading in the same direction. In her spare time, she enjoys walking their Westie (Oscar) as well as being a keen runner.
Zoe joined Castles in January 2020 to begin her career in estate agency, following three years working full-time within the retail sector. She has a strong background in customer service and retail, having started work at the age of 15 at a local hairdressing salon. Having started university in 2016 to study law, she quickly realised this was not for her and once again moved back into the retail sector working for Sainsburys, so brings to Castles some great people skills and customer experience. Zoe has lived in Aldershot all her life and attended school in Farnham so has a good knowledge of the local area. In her spare time she enjoys drawing and catching up with friends over a drink or meal - a particular favourite is the William Cobbett in Farnham. She also still has a keen interest in law and loves to watch crime documentaries and films. Having recently travelled to Bali, Indonesia for a few weeks to visit her best friend who had been travelling for a year, she now also has a taste for travelling and what is out there, and would love to see more of the world.
Duncan has recently celebrated 34 years in estate agency but is still first to admit there is still so much more to learn. Like many, estate agency wasn’t a deliberate career move, it just so happened that after a premature end to his business studies degree course he was offered the job of junior negotiator in Farnham. Selling a house in his first week he was hooked on the satisfaction that can be gained by helping people with such a significant milestone in their life.
Although progressing up the corporate ladder, Duncan was frustrated and believed that a far better job could be done for clients, but not in that environment. The idea of Castles was formed in the late 80’s and realised in 1992 with the opening of an office in Aldershot. Bringing new levels of client care Castles quickly became the name synonymous with effective, quality customer service. Duncan opened Farnham in 1997. Lettings was added in 2010.
After 10 years in the industry he achieved a Fellowship of The National Association of Estate Agents. Duncan was one of the first people in the country to qualify as a Home Inspector and has recently achieving the Level 3 NVQ in The Sale of Residential Property.
Born in Liverpool, Duncan is a lifelong ‘Red’ although he lost his accent when he moved to the Isle of Wight as a boy. He joined his family when they moved to Farnham in the early 80’s and has remained in the area. Duncan lives in Medstead with his wife Penny, Thomas 22, Elliot 19 and Millie the cat. In what little spare time he has, Duncan enjoys mountain biking, squash, and walking and cooking.
Kelly joined Castles in 2010 as a Weekend Assistant she has since risen through the ranks to become Senior Lettings Negotiator working across both the Farnham and Aldershot offices.
Kelly has been in the industry for over 14 years and is fully ARLA qualified. She started her career back in 2005 working for an independent estate agent covering Haslemere, Liphook, Hindhead and Farnham.Kelly is responsible for the valuing, taking on and marketing of all our rental property. Once a tenant is found she conducts all the necessary referencing and checks and sets up the tenancy. She also manages the move-in and check-out process. Kelly says she particularly enjoys the variety her role offers her, the customer service and meeting new people.
Kelly is a local girl having grown up in Frensham with her family. She recently bought her own home in Whitehill and in her spare time she enjoys going to the gym, walking her dog, Hunter, and spending time with family and friends. Kelly has recently welcomed daughter Isla to the world with her partner Graham.
Ellie joined Castles in October 2018 to begin a career in estate agency. She has always worked in a customer service role previously working in a Toni & Guy Salon as a receptionist and sales assistant at Waitrose.
Ellie started working at the age of 17 in a part time role at Travelex while she was at college studying hairdressing. After leaving college she was offered a full time job at Waitrose which she later had to leave as she relocated to Cornwall for a short period of time. When Ellie returned to Camberley she decided she wanted to pursue hairdressing which she did by getting a job as a receptionist in a Toni and Guy Salon which led her to doing hair as well. Ellie later decided she needed something more challenging and enjoys learning something new every day. She has always been interested in estate agency having family that also work in the industry. Hairdressing is now a hobby for Ellie.
Ellie was born in Camberley and has lived there all her life except for her short stay in Cornwall, so she knows Aldershot and the surrounding areas well.
In her spare time Ellie enjoys socialising with friends and spending time with her family. She also takes part in various sports, currently playing competitive netball, also enjoying skiing and going to the gym and she used to figure skate competitively too.
